In today’s SPORTS we chat the Cardinals, NHL Playoff Action, some notable names coming back to the MLB, and Roger Clemens is back in court. Plus, a little more on the Amare vs. Fire Extinguisher fight!
Adam Wainwright picked up his first win of the season after help from a David Freese 3 run homer. The Pirates attempted a late game comeback but fell just short as the team got the 10-7 win. Jason Motte picked up the save. Two teams are back at it again tonight. First pitch is schedule for 7:15 as Lance Lynn takes the mound. One other Cardinal note: the team has announced that they plan on retiring former manager Tony LaRussa’s #10 during a pre game ceremony on May 11th against the Braves. Tickets are still available for that game.
HERE IS A LINK TO THAT DAVID FREESE INTERVIEW WE WERE TALKING ABOUT...We can only guess reporter Julie Tristan’s self-assignment to ride the Mr. Freeze roller coaster last week with David Freese was intended as a pick-me-up.
Other MLB notes – a couple of notable names returning to the MLB this week. The Tampa Bay Rays have signed former Yankee star Hideki Matsui to a minor league contract, and the Indians have announced that Johnny Damon will start tonight against the White Sox.
Andy Pettitte took the stand yesterday during the retrial of former teammate Roger Clemens on charges that Clemens lied when he told Congress back in 08 when he said he never used steroids or HGH. Pettitte said: “Roger had mentioned to me that he had taken HGH and that it could help with recovery, and that’s all I remember.” Pettitte goes back on the stand this morning…and Clemens claims Pettitte “misremembers.”
And a final MLB note – the $2 billion dollar sale of the Los Angeles Dodgers to Guggenheim Baseball Management – the group including Magic Johnson – was finalized yesterday. The group is expected to hold a press conference sometime today.
The Devils beat the Flyers last night 4-1 to even up that series at a game a piece. The Flyers scored in the first period, and that was the score until New Jersey scored all four goals in the third. NHL action continues tonight as the Rangers and Capitals play at 6:30 and the Coyotes and Predators play at 8PM.
So a little bit more came out of the Amare Stoudemire fire extinguisher drama yesterday. Amare is out for game 3 against the Heat after he punched a fire extinguisher casing in the back of the arena that caused him to get stitches. Here is something even funnier. Someone that witnessed it said, “he didn’t haul off and punch the glass…he slapped it…with a closed fist.” For those of you keeping score…That’s also called…a punch. The source also said it looked like half of Amare’s palm was hanging off of his hand. Amare is listed doubtful for game 4 and could miss the entire series against the Heat.
