There’s a new survey ranking America’s favorite sports mascots, and number one is kind of an upset. Mr. Met from the New York Mets beat out the Phillie Phanatic from the Philadelphia Phillies. The rankings were based on awareness, likability, and recognizablity. (Yes, we know that’s not a word, but it should be, right?)
Benny the Bull from the Chicago Bulls came in third, and the San Diego Chicken . . . who doesn’t even officially represent the Padres . . . came in fourth. Here’s the full top 10. Although there are actually 11, because there was a tie for 10. NO college mascots made the team.
#1.) Mr. Met, New York Mets.
#2.) Phillie Phanatic, Philadelphia Phillies.
#3.) Benny the Bull, Chicago Bulls.
#4.) San Diego Chicken, who people associate with the San Diego Padres.
#5.) Wally the Green Monster, Boston Red Sox.
#6.) The Racing Sausages, Milwaukee Brewers.
#7.) The Gorilla, Phoenix Suns.
#8.) Billy the Marlin, Miami Marlins.
#9.) The Coyote, San Antonio Spurs.
#10.) A tie between The Racing Presidents from the Washington Nationals, and Rocky, for the Denver Nuggets.
NOTE: I’m sure Fred Bird is #1 in your hearts….but we want you to notice how the article NOWHERE mentions Fred Bird. Anywhere. Not included. So those pissed at us for “leaving him out” of the story……can suck it.
