Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has caused a stir after releasing Emmy consideration mailers and ads addressed to “Brentwood Jews” — which were rejected by trade publications The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. The pieces featured Family Guy patriarch Peter Griffin saying, “Come on, you bloated, over privileged Brentwood Jews. Let us into your little club.” Inside, the copy read, “It’s a secret ballot. You can still tell people you voted for Modern Family.” Despite the controversy, MacFarlane is making no apologies. He told EOnline.com, “I put it in the same category as Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes a few years ago — Hollywood must be able to laugh at itself. Hollywood is a town of very well-to-do folks who live very comfortably. They have a very comfortable lifestyle, they do what they love, there’s not much that is bad in their life. So they should be able to laugh at themselves. If they can’t, it’s a rather sad thing.”
GWYNETH PALTROW caused some controversy the other day when she Tweeted a picture of herself onstage during a JAY-Z / KANYE WEST concert in Paris, along with the following caption . . .”Niggas in paris for real.” “Niggas in Paris” is, of course, a song off Jay and Kanye’s album “Watch the Throne”. But some people on the World Wide Web of Sniping picked up on it, and started questioning whether Gwyneth should have used the word. So Gwyneth Tweeted, quote, “Hold up. It’s the title of the song!” And, according to TMZ, Jay and Kanye performed that song ELEVEN TIMES that night.
It’s happening…..SLIPKNOT has launched its own music festival. It’s called Knotfest . . . and aside from Slipknot, the bill includes: Deftones, Serj Tankian, Prong, Cannibal Corpse and………sure as shit…..THE URGE! There are two dates: August 17th in Council Bluffs Iowa, and Aug 18th in Minneapolis.
A few months ago, KATE WINSLET admitted that she’s sick and tired of hearing the “Titanic” song “My Heart Will Go On”. In fact, she said it makes her want to THROW UP. So how does CELINE DION feel about that? She doesn’t agree. Remember, Celine is the one who has to SING that song every time there’s a microphone nearby. So she has MORE of a right to be sick of it than Kate does. But she has a much healthier attitude about it. Yesterday on the “Today” show she said, quote, “‘My Heart Will Go On’ gave me the opportunity to be associated with a classic that will live forever. If I just count how many times I’ve sung it, maybe it’ll get me sick.” She added, quote, “If she feels tired just hearing it, and, like, throwing up, I’m glad she was not the one singing it.”
MADS MIKKELSEN will star in NBC’s new drama “Hannibal”, which is inspired by the Hannibal Lecter books, “Silence of the Lambs”, “Red Dragon”, “Hannibal” and “Hannibal Rising”, written by Thomas Harris. He’s playing Hannibal. So who is this dude? Mads Mikkelsen was the villain in the 2006 James Bond movie “Casino Royale” . . . Draco in the “Clash of the Titans” remake . . . and Captain Rochefort in the most recent “Three Musketeers” movie. This is one of TWO upcoming series inspired by the Hannibal story. Lifetime is developing a series called “Clarice” that’s based on Clarice Starling, the character JODIE FOSTER played in “Silence of the Lambs”.
What’s ANDY SAMBERG going to do with his time now that he’s officially leaving “Saturday Night Live”? For starters, he’s going to star on an upcoming BBC show. It’s called “Cuckoo” . . . and he’s playing “a hippie slacker who faces a fearsome father-in-law after marrying a British girl.” The “SNL” to BBC move doesn’t exactly seem like a jump UP . . . but in fairness, Andy already has five movies in the pipeline, including the ADAM SANDLER comedy “That’s My Boy”, which hits theaters NEXT Friday.
DEF LEPPARD has recorded and released new versions of “Rock of Ages” and “Pour Some Sugar on Me”. They’re available on iTunes, and they’re streaming online…..CHECK EM OUT HERE! Naturally, this is to cash in on the TOM CRUISE movie “Rock of Ages”, which features both songs. The movie hits theaters NEXT Friday . . . and the soundtrack, which features Tom’s version of “Pour Some Sugar on Me”, is in stores today.
GEORGE LUCAS’ “Howard the Duck” is frequently regarded as one of the worst movies and one of the biggest flops of all time. But Marvel Comics . . . the company that originated the character . . . has made a fun animated video urging Lucas to give it a proper Blu-ray release.
