During today’s DOUCHEBAG OF THE DAY is between THREE DIFFERENT people. So, we give you all three stories and you can be the judge. Who gets the OFFICIAL Douchebag of the Day vote! A mom lies about daughters FAKE cancer, a hoax 911 call, and a man calls his wife and makes SON call 911! WHO WILL GET THE VOTE?
NOMINEE #1 – A St. Joe mother is behind bars after prosecutors charge her with felony forgery. Officials say Carrie Campbell’s forgery was all part of a plan to solicit money to benefit her 17-year-old daughter who she claimed was suffering from cancer. Police won’t say how much money Campbell gained in the trickery. But according to angry family members, the ruse allegedly involved thousands of dollars in donations from people who cared. One business even says they set up a fund for $3,500 dollars so mom and daughter could go to Disneyland. Check out the mugshot and the FLYER (below).
NOMINEE #2 – The U.S. Coast Guard has released audio recordings of the distress call made by a man claiming to be the captain of a yacht that had exploded off the coast of Sandy Hook, N.J. The call prompted the costly deployment of over 200 responders and a fleet of helicopters and boats into the Atlantic Ocean, before it proved to be a hoax. In an early transmission, the man calmly told the Coast Guard, “We have three deceased, nine injured. We’ve had an explosion on-board that’s why we’re taking on water. I’m in about three-and-a-half feet of water on the bridge right now.” In an ensuing dispatch, the man contradicted his earlier transmission by saying, “We have 21 souls on-board, 20 in the water right now.” He added, “I’m going to stay on the radio for as long as I can before I have to go overboard.” The recording contained five separate transmissions totaling almost a minute and a half. He also said that everyone had life jackets and that distress beacons were on-board. The caller displayed some basic nautical knowledge, saying that his electronic communications array was down, which is why he called via solar radio. He also had fairly precise coordinates for their location, saying they were 17.5 miles east of Sandy Hook. The last transmission cuts off ominously, with the caller saying “I’m dealing with 2nd and 3rd degree…” He was presumably speaking about burns suffered by the supposed victims of the explosion. The U.S. Coast Guard has launched an investigation into a yacht explosion hoax call made by the realistic-sounding “captain.”
NOMINEE #3 – An Ohio man killed his ex-wife outside an apartment when she came to pick up their children and instructed his 13-year-old son to call 911 to report the stabbing death, police said. Jeremy Roberts, 38, allegedly stabbed his ex-wife, Candice Roberts, 36, during an argument on Sunday when she came to pick up her 13-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter. The couple also have a 16-year-old daughter. “My dad just killed my mom. He just told me to call you guys,” the unidentified 13-year-old told the dispatcher. “He did what?” the dispatcher asked. “He just ran out and killed my mom. She is laying in the grass in front of our apartment. He told me to call you guys,” the teen replied. Jeremy Roberts then grabbed the phone and told the dispatcher he wasn’t going to harm anyone else and that he could find the victim outside, covered by a blanket. “I love you guys,” Roberts can be heard telling his children. “Wait, one more hug.” Roberts’ 4-year-old daughter then asks: “When are we gonna see mama?” The father of three is charged with murder and is being held at the Franklin County Jail.
