An eastern Missouri man’s honesty during a job interview with the state Highway Patrol got him arrested when, according to the interviewer, he acknowledged inappropriately touching a child. St. Francois County prosecutors now have charged 26-year-old Christopher Stringham, of Park Hills, with 20 counts of first-degree statutory sodomy. According to court records, Stringham was asked during a job interview with the Highway Patrol last month if he ever committed a sexual crime he could be convicted of. He allegedly replied he touched a child several times, each time accidentally. A message left Tuesday with his attorney, James Willis of Farmington, wasn’t returned. A judge lowered Stringham’s bond Tuesday from $500,000 to $25,000 and ordered him to wear a monitoring bracelet if released.

New details have been released regarding a Fort Zumwalt West Middle School teacher in custody for possession of child pornography. Matt Hansen, 38, was a seventh grade math teacher at the school and had been employed with the school district since 2004. Hansen was placed on administrative leave earlier this month when the district learned he had been charged with felony possession of child pornography after he climbed a cell phone tower in a small Iowa town and threatened to kill himself. Officers talked Hansen down and he was committed to a mental health facility before he was transferred to the Lincoln County Jail.  On Monday, Bernard DuBray, Superintendent of the Fort Zumwalt School District, posted a letter on the district’s website with more information regarding Hansen and the charges. DuBray says in addition to teaching seventh grade math, Hansen also assisted with the Fifth Grade Outdoor Education Program. He says after Hansen was arrested and charged with possession of child pornography, the Cyber Crimes Unit discovered he had also secretly videotaped male students of the Outdoor Education Program undressing before getting in the showers. The students are from Progress South, Lewis and Clark, and Dardenne elementary schools.
